  The 4th China-Sabah Short Film Competition is back again this year, with a total of RM35,000 cash prizes for professional and amateur filmmakers who best depict the touching stories that feature the cooperation and enduring friendship between China and Sabah.

  The content of the short film can be but not limited to the joint effort between China and Sabah in battling against the Covid-19 pandemic, close relations between Sabahans and Chinese citizens, or the preservation of Chinese cultures in Sabah.

  The competition is organized by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, in collaboration with Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA).

DETAILS OF THE COMPETITION

Eligible participants : Open to present or former residents of Sabah of all ages and nationalities

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Content

  Content of the entry must be appropriate in nature and depicts the enduring friendship and exchanges between China and Sabah from different perspectives, such as the joint effort in fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic, close relations between Sabahans and Chinese citizens and the preservation of Chinese cultures in Sabah. The films can be of any genre, including but not limited to, documentary, drama and digital animation.

Filming device

  The films can be shot with mobile phones, cameras, DV or tablets.

Length

  Submissions shall not exceed 6 minutes, inclusive of beginning and end credits.

Format

  The film may be shot in MPEG4 or H.264 format. The recommended ratios are 16:9/16:9 in HD.

Language

  The short films can be shot in any languages. English or Chinese subtitles are required for submissions with language(s) other than Mandarin.

Submission

  Participants are required to fill in the entry form (Scan QR code or visit https://bit.ly/3n4ehMR to download) and upload their short films to YouTube.com, set as unlisted and provide the link to the organizer along with the entry form via email to chinasabahshortfilmcontest@gmail.com.

  Participants are allowed to submit one (1) film only.

  Submitted entries will not be returned by the organizer.

Judging criteria

  All entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges on creativity, storyline, originality and technical merits. Results will be announced in February 2022 and winners shall be notified to attend the award presentation ceremony in due course.

  The jury is free to award distinctions or merits to any other films or film makers where deem fit.

  The decision of the organizers and judges shall be final and no appeals or consequences will be entertained.

Prizes

  Gold Award : RM 8,000 cash prize + trophy

  Silver Award : RM 6,000 cash prize + trophy

  Bronze Award : RM 5,000 cash prize + trophy

  Best Editing Award : RM 3,000 cash prize + trophy

  Most Creative Film Award: RM 3,000 cash prize + trophy

  Consolation Prizes : RM 1,000 cash prize each + trophy

Copyright

  Submissions must be original work of participants. The participant is expected to have obtained the necessary copyright clearances, image releases and music/graphic permissions prior to the entry. The participant shall ensure that their entry does not infringe any third party's intellectual property rights or defamatory invade the publicity or privacy rights, of any third party, living or deceased.

  Any entry or submitted materials found in violation or copyright infringement shall be deemed ineligible, and submission will be rejected by the organizers.

  The organizer assumes no liability or responsibility on materials that infringe any third party right.

  The participant agreed to indemnify the organizers and its affiliates against any and all claims, damages, liabilities, costs, debts and expenses arising from the participant's violation of any third party rights, including without limitation any intellectual property, property or privacy right.

  The participants agree that the organizers shall be authorized to use the submitted materials and/or their name, music, voice, and /or likeness for any advertising, publicity or broadcasting material relating to this competition without compensation or rights to royalties for such use. The organizer and its authorized representative retain all rights to the submitted materials, and any use the same in a promotional capacity, both in Malaysia and worldwide without any remuneration.

  Participation in the content constitutes participant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these rules.
